Kids Help Phone

A digital renewal: Unifying web services for youth and donors.

Project Info
For the Kids Help Phone project, our goal was to make their web counseling service better for young people and easier for donors to see how their money helps. I was part of a team that worked on this for 21 weeks.

During the initial 5-week discovery and definition phases, we identified our key objectives. My contributions included conducting research, leading workshops, planning user experiences, designing interactions on the service, and establishing the website's visual aesthetic.

The big task was combining three different websites into one that works for everyone, which took 16 weeks. I worked with our clients and team to make sure everything went smoothly, helped with the design and building of the CMS website, and chose tools like Sketch and Zeplin for us to work together online. Notably, at that time, there was no Figma—yet the chosen tools significantly improved our designer and developer workflow compared to the days when designing websites in Photoshop was the norm.

Our efforts not only made the website more user-friendly for kids and clearer for donors about the impact of their contributions but also included the development of a content management system (CMS). This CMS enables the Kids Help Phone team to easily create and manage content, ensuring the site remains up-to-date. We also established a foundational design system for Kids Help Phone team to implement and build on.
